Ontario Tech acknowledges the lands and people of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation.

We are thankful to be welcome on these lands in friendship. The lands we are situated on are covered by the Williams Treaties and are the traditional territory of the Mississaugas, a branch of the greater Anishinaabeg Nation, including Algonquin, Ojibway, Odawa and Pottawatomi. These lands remain home to many Indigenous nations and peoples.

We acknowledge this land out of respect for the Indigenous nations who have cared for Turtle Island, also called North America, from before the arrival of settler peoples until this day. Most importantly, we acknowledge that the history of these lands has been tainted by poor treatment and a lack of friendship with the First Nations who call them home.

This history is something we are all affected by because we are all treaty people in Canada. We all have a shared history to reflect on, and each of us is affected by this history in different ways. Our past defines our present, but if we move forward as friends and allies, then it does not have to define our future.

Physical distancing Spotify playlist

March 19, 2020

While practicing physical distancing it can get boring being by yourself. Listening to music can help uplift your spirits and what’s better than a pump-up playlist…  a pump-up playlist with a social distancing theme. Here are a few songs to get you through this tough time while putting a smile on your face.

Stayin’ Alive – Bee Gees

Stayin’ Alive is about “staying alive”, which is how we feel during this pandemic, whether it’s staying alive from the boredom of self-isolation or from the virus we’re all trying to avoid.

U Can’t Touch This – MC Hammer

This is a perfect song for avoiding COVID-19. Keep washing your hands and DON’T TOUCH ANYTHING. If you do, wear gloves and avoid going out.

Intentions – Justin Bieber ft. Quavo

Intentions is a good song to help remind us that even though we are going through a pandemic, we can still be kind to others. Have good intentions and not hoarding all the toilet paper would be a great start!

House Party – Sam Hunt

House Party is about having fun at home even if it’s just with you significant other or in this case your family. Nothings stopping you from blasting some music and dancing around the house. Might as well have some fun, even if you’re stuck in the house.

Don’t Stand So Close to Me – The Police

The Police are addressing what we need to be doing, which is staying away from people. Hence social distancing and avoiding contact with others.

Hard Times – Paramore

No matter what you’re going through during this time, you’re not alone. We all have hard times but it getting better, once you hit rock bottom there’s only going up from here!

All by Myself – Celine Dion

Hopefully everyone is social distancing at home with their families but if you live by yourself, then this song is for you!

Make sure you’re practicing physical distancing and staying safe. There’s nothing more frustrating than being stuck at home with nothing to do (other than homework). Enjoy more songs in our Spotify Playlist: Social Distancing..HELP..
