Ontario Tech acknowledges the lands and people of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation.

We are thankful to be welcome on these lands in friendship. The lands we are situated on are covered by the Williams Treaties and are the traditional territory of the Mississaugas, a branch of the greater Anishinaabeg Nation, including Algonquin, Ojibway, Odawa and Pottawatomi. These lands remain home to many Indigenous nations and peoples.

We acknowledge this land out of respect for the Indigenous nations who have cared for Turtle Island, also called North America, from before the arrival of settler peoples until this day. Most importantly, we acknowledge that the history of these lands has been tainted by poor treatment and a lack of friendship with the First Nations who call them home.

This history is something we are all affected by because we are all treaty people in Canada. We all have a shared history to reflect on, and each of us is affected by this history in different ways. Our past defines our present, but if we move forward as friends and allies, then it does not have to define our future.

Dear life I am so tired…but I will keep going

November 16, 2022

Something they never told me about life is that it is ever changing. We all have this vision about things occurring a certain way and have a whole plan curated in our minds. Little do we know that plans can change, and we can’t do much about this except just keep going.

I think what is essential during this time is to have perspective. So what if things didn’t go as planned? How far are we from the target? What can we do to ensure we still make it? I talk to myself actively and remind myself that it’s alright we are still making progress, and we will not lose heart.

Do I get tired? Yes. Sometimes, getting out of bed can be the biggest mission. However, I take things slower. I check in with myself and do some things little by little because even a little progress is progress.

I know how far I’ve come to quit; I’ve overcome too much to turn around now. It's just pushing through until the hard work is done.  The key to the game is consistency.

I want you to understand that we all get tired. No one is constantly feeling their 100%. No matter how aesthetic you make your routine or whether you romanticize your life, your brain and body will not always be on board because we are humans, and we have our limits. And this is entirely okay. Take the breaks you need to regain control of your true self so you can be the person you were meant to be and do the things you need to do to make the difference you make.
