Ontario Tech acknowledges the lands and people of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation.

We are thankful to be welcome on these lands in friendship. The lands we are situated on are covered by the Williams Treaties and are the traditional territory of the Mississaugas, a branch of the greater Anishinaabeg Nation, including Algonquin, Ojibway, Odawa and Pottawatomi. These lands remain home to many Indigenous nations and peoples.

We acknowledge this land out of respect for the Indigenous nations who have cared for Turtle Island, also called North America, from before the arrival of settler peoples until this day. Most importantly, we acknowledge that the history of these lands has been tainted by poor treatment and a lack of friendship with the First Nations who call them home.

This history is something we are all affected by because we are all treaty people in Canada. We all have a shared history to reflect on, and each of us is affected by this history in different ways. Our past defines our present, but if we move forward as friends and allies, then it does not have to define our future.

A delay is not a denial

March 14, 2023

Can you recall a time when you wished for something? Something you desired greatly. Every day, you awoke, prayed, believed, and pursued it with all your might, knowing that one day, one faithful day, you would succeed... Then you don't.

What now? The average person would say well, it didn't work; I guess this is just not for me. I am not meant for this.

To that, I say, stop, please, this is not true. A delay is not a denial.

We need to have trust and unwavering hope in the timing of the universe. Your future is unfolding right in front of your eyes every hour, minute, and second of every day.

You have dreams. You have goals, big ideas and the most lovely things that one could imagine; you have envisioned a little box in your head called "my life." I know each and every one of us, and it is beautiful. I wish for all of us to contemplate only the best of the best for ourselves and our loved ones. Now, my question for you is, do you believe that making something beautiful is a quick process that can be rushed? Beautiful things need time, passion, ambition, patience, sweat, and persistence to create. I heard this quote once and thought I would share it with you:

“What comes easy won’t last, what lasts won’t come easy.”

                                                                   - Ntsiki KaCaleni

Creating anything remarkable requires your efforts and time; you must learn to believe. Be so blinded by your belief in yourself that you do not care about the criticism, the doubters, anxieties, or whatever force of this world tries to stop you. Believing in your dreams is an essential element of the process. You gotta believe it. You must see the vision; you must feel it and anticipate it because it will come; it is only a matter of time.

People quit the second things go south or when results aren't instantaneous. Remember, a delay is not a denial. Think about how close you may have been when you decided to quit. Can you even fathom the fragility of your success? It's on you to take you to your dreams.

Please have faith in yourself and in the universe. Good things are on the way. You only have one life; we do not know what is beyond this life, but we know that we have time and are present; we might as well take advantage of this opportunity.

Remember, when pursuing your dreams, do not think, "Oh, I have to do this." No. You GET TO DO THIS. Many individuals are desperate for the opportunities you have. Please! Practice thankfulness! Be patient! A delay is not a denial.

Oh, and by the way, you have got what it takes. Now show the world what you have got. Go get 'em' tiger!
