Ontario Tech acknowledges the lands and people of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation.

We are thankful to be welcome on these lands in friendship. The lands we are situated on are covered by the Williams Treaties and are the traditional territory of the Mississaugas, a branch of the greater Anishinaabeg Nation, including Algonquin, Ojibway, Odawa and Pottawatomi. These lands remain home to many Indigenous nations and peoples.

We acknowledge this land out of respect for the Indigenous nations who have cared for Turtle Island, also called North America, from before the arrival of settler peoples until this day. Most importantly, we acknowledge that the history of these lands has been tainted by poor treatment and a lack of friendship with the First Nations who call them home.

This history is something we are all affected by because we are all treaty people in Canada. We all have a shared history to reflect on, and each of us is affected by this history in different ways. Our past defines our present, but if we move forward as friends and allies, then it does not have to define our future.

Top five ways to spend your study break

December 10, 2019

I speak from experience when I say that optimizing study breaks is important to succeed in all your exams! So, here’s my shortlist of the best ways to spend your study breaks during exam season.

Sleep your worries away

Let’s face it… during exams, you won't be sleeping much, so what better way to spend your study breaks? 😴 If you’re anything like me, you don’t fall asleep as easily as you wish you could. So if you can’t take a nap during your break, just close your eyes 😌 and give them a quick rest before going back to staring at your laptop screen 👩‍💻 for the next countless amount of hours… Your eyes will thank you! 👀🙌

Take a shower

What’s that smell...?

Okay, so we’ve all had bad weeks when you literally don’t have time to shower. So take this study break and do your housemates a favour and clean yourself up. Plus, the water is soothing and can help calm your nerves! 💆‍♀️

Eat

It’s hard to find the motivation to study during exams… so what keeps me going is FOOD 🍔🍟🌭🍝 ! Sometimes as a break, I like to walk or drive over to a fast-food place and pick up something yummy to eat! This might be a slightly expensive/unhealthy option 😅… but it’s okay once in a while. TREAT YO’ SELF!

Cry

Sometimes you just can’t solve that physics problem 🎢 … or memorize that biochem pathway… so the best thing to do is get that frustration out of your system and CRY. A good cry session will help you focus afterwards and calm you down! So get your tissues ready and remember to hydrate afterwards. 😭👍 Studying on campus and need a good cry? Check out this post on the top places to cry on campus.

Shake it off

As a great singer once said… Haters gonna hate 🤷‍♀️, but I’m just gonna shake… 👯‍♀️ So shake it off! Sometimes, as a break, I like to either refresh with a good workout session 🏃‍♀️ or just blast some upbeat music 🎶 to keep me going for the rest of the night! Believe me, it helps! So step away from that textbook and enjoy a quick dance break. 💃💃 Looking for some music to shake it off to? Check out Sylvia's post with five study playlists.
