Ontario Tech acknowledges the lands and people of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation.

We are thankful to be welcome on these lands in friendship. The lands we are situated on are covered by the Williams Treaties and are the traditional territory of the Mississaugas, a branch of the greater Anishinaabeg Nation, including Algonquin, Ojibway, Odawa and Pottawatomi. These lands remain home to many Indigenous nations and peoples.

We acknowledge this land out of respect for the Indigenous nations who have cared for Turtle Island, also called North America, from before the arrival of settler peoples until this day. Most importantly, we acknowledge that the history of these lands has been tainted by poor treatment and a lack of friendship with the First Nations who call them home.

This history is something we are all affected by because we are all treaty people in Canada. We all have a shared history to reflect on, and each of us is affected by this history in different ways. Our past defines our present, but if we move forward as friends and allies, then it does not have to define our future.

Resources to help you with your academics

Sometimes courses can get overwhelming.  You may feel like you need a bit of extra help. Ontario Tech University offers so many resources to help you out with your courses. Here’s a quick list so you can take advantage of them!

 1. Peer tutors

You can book one on one appointments with a peer tutor who has previously completed the course you are currently in. You have up to 10 sessions per semester included in your tuition, so you might as well use them! You can book sessions through the Student Life Portal.

 2. PASS sessions

Peer Assisted Study Sessions are conducted by a student that has previously taken the course. Here, they can answer your questions and help provide more practice and clarify topics you are going through in the lecture.

 3. Workshops

There are many course-related workshops that work on practicing and improving your knowledge of current lecture material. There are also workshops that help teach you some new study skills. You can sign up for these through the Student Life Portal.

This is a great place to go to get some extra support with a specific subject and question.

5. Science Café

The Faculty of Science has developed a program called Science Café where T.A.'s can help students in subjects such as Biology, Chemistry, Math, Physics and Computer Science, either one-on-one or in small groups.
