Ontario Tech acknowledges the lands and people of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation.

We are thankful to be welcome on these lands in friendship. The lands we are situated on are covered by the Williams Treaties and are the traditional territory of the Mississaugas, a branch of the greater Anishinaabeg Nation, including Algonquin, Ojibway, Odawa and Pottawatomi. These lands remain home to many Indigenous nations and peoples.

We acknowledge this land out of respect for the Indigenous nations who have cared for Turtle Island, also called North America, from before the arrival of settler peoples until this day. Most importantly, we acknowledge that the history of these lands has been tainted by poor treatment and a lack of friendship with the First Nations who call them home.

This history is something we are all affected by because we are all treaty people in Canada. We all have a shared history to reflect on, and each of us is affected by this history in different ways. Our past defines our present, but if we move forward as friends and allies, then it does not have to define our future.

My Learning Centre Experience: Math Study Hall

October 19, 2021

What is Math Study Hall?

Math Study Hall is a great place to drop in and get assistance from math specialists or peer tutors on all things math-related!

Why I chose to attend Math Study Hall

While peer tutor sessions are great and I rave about them in my article called “My student experience: peer tutoring sessions” another great math help alternative is Math Study Hall! If I felt like I didn’t need 45 minutes of help, Math Study Hall was a great place to get quick questions answered.

Benefits of attending Math Study Hall

Stay for as little or as long as you’d like

The Math Study Hall runs on a drop-in basis. All I needed to do was check the hours that they were open during and I was free to show up whenever I liked! You can stay for 5 minutes or for hours depending on if you need help or if you just need a space to get some work done.

A good place to get work done

As I was saying, Math Study Hall is a great place to get math work done. You never know when you’ll encounter a math question that you’ll need help with. I used to do my homework there sometimes so I’d get on-the-spot help as soon as I encountered a problem. Being able to get help while the material was fresh on my mind made it easier to see a mistake and correct it with the help of a tutor or math specialist.

Collaborative environment

Sometimes I’d walk into Math Study Hall and if there was an assignment due in one of my math classes I’d see a lot of familiar faces and classmates there for help. This makes for a great collaborative environment to help each other out and also have experts there to support us if we needed it.

Math Study Hall is now running virtually so you can also get help at home! All the best with your math studies!
