5 reasons why you should write for the Digital Community

I never imagined joining the Digital Community Crew partly because I thought I was too shy and that I wouldn’t be very good at it. But, a few friends convinced me to just go for it! They thought that this would be the perfect volunteer opportunity for me and they were so right! Not only did my love for the Digital Community grow into me becoming a returning Crew Member, but it also resulted in my Work-Study position through University Works as a Digital Community Assistant! Here are some reasons why I joined the team, and you should too!

The commitment is flexible

The great thing about the Digital Community is that the commitment is flexible. What I mean by this is that there are 3 types of contributors that can write for the Digital Community. 

Guest Writer 

Low commitment, write as many or as few articles as you’d like. 

Content Creator 

A minimum of 8 articles is required to be submitted per year so that the Content Creator designation can be added to your ‘Involvement Record’. The completion of a Content Creation workshop is also required.

Digital Community Crew Member 

In addition to creating content individually, Crew Members attend bi-weekly meetings to work together in planning Digital Community initiatives throughout the school year. The completion of a Campaign/Event Planning training, Content Creation workshop, and a Personal Branding workshop is required. 

Having the freedom to choose how much or how little you’d want to contribute is so helpful as a student!

The limit does not exist

The limit does not exist in terms of content that you can create. Anything from blogs to playlists to quizzes, and more, you can probably make it happen! 

It doesn’t require formal writing skills

The articles on the Digital Community are not like the typical university-style essays. They are a lot more informal and can be as short or as long as you’d like!

You can write about things that are important to you

I tend to write about what’s been on my mind or about what I’ve been experiencing lately. It is truly amazing to know that I have a platform like the Digital Community to share my thoughts and that maybe someone will read my article and it will resonate with them or help them in some way.

You will be a published author
