Ontario Tech acknowledges the lands and people of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation.

We are thankful to be welcome on these lands in friendship. The lands we are situated on are covered by the Williams Treaties and are the traditional territory of the Mississaugas, a branch of the greater Anishinaabeg Nation, including Algonquin, Ojibway, Odawa and Pottawatomi. These lands remain home to many Indigenous nations and peoples.

We acknowledge this land out of respect for the Indigenous nations who have cared for Turtle Island, also called North America, from before the arrival of settler peoples until this day. Most importantly, we acknowledge that the history of these lands has been tainted by poor treatment and a lack of friendship with the First Nations who call them home.

This history is something we are all affected by because we are all treaty people in Canada. We all have a shared history to reflect on, and each of us is affected by this history in different ways. Our past defines our present, but if we move forward as friends and allies, then it does not have to define our future.

Undergrad as told by Disney music

January 23, 2020

So after FINALLY making it to fourth year, we thought a fun way to summarize our experience at Ontario Tech would be through music… Specifically, Disney music.

First semester, first year.

“A Whole New World” - Aladdin

"A whole new world
A new fantastic point of view
No one to tell us no
Or where to go"

We all know the feeling of walking onto campus for our first day of classes and being hopelessly lost. You think this “lost” feeling will end when you find your class but it doesn’t. So congrats, you’re officially a student.

Second semester, first year.

“Under the Sea”- The Little Mermaid

"Up on the shore they work all day
Out in the sun they slave away
While we devotin'
Full time to floatin'
Under the sea"

Get it? Because we are drowning in assignments, lab reports and midterms. At this point, you're knee-deep in course work with NO CLUE on how to get things done. In this case, maybe we're the ones up on the shore?

First semester, second year.

“I'll Make a Man Out of You” - Mulan

"Let's get down to business..."

So one year down a lot more to go. But you’re slowly getting a hold of things! Yay! New Year, new me. Let’s GO.

Second semester, second year.

”Remember Me” - Coco

"Remember me, for I will soon be gone..."

For when you need a reminder that the end isn't that far away. Motivation is your new best friend. You keep at it because you know your efforts will be remembered!

First semester, third year.

“Bare Necessities” - The Jungle Book

"...so just try and relax, cool it, fall apart in my backyard."

#Relatable. You tried the motivation thing but now you’re just trying to get through this year. Keep calm and study on.

Second semester, third year.

“Almost There”  - The Princess and the Frog

"Trials and tribulations
I've had my share
There ain't nothin' gonna stop me now
'Cause I'ma almost there"

Graduation is soooooo close (yet so far). You’re excited to finish this semester but ALSO hella ready to be in your FINAL year! At the same time, you’re swamped with a ton of stuff to do but that ain’t stopping you now!

First semester, fourth year.

“Let it Go” - Frozen

"Here I stand
And here I'll stay
Let the storm rage on!"

Last year, home stretch! Let the storm of fourth-year rage on.

Second semester, fourth year.

"How Far I'll Go" - Moana

"See the line where the sky meets the sea?
It calls me
And no one knows
How far it goes"

Now you are out there in the world, officially an alumni from Ontario Tech University! You’re either ready to CONQUER THE WORLD or ready to become a student again!

We hope you can relate to our undergrad experience. Sincerely, two hella stressed and hella anxious fourth-year science students.
