Ontario Tech acknowledges the lands and people of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation.

We are thankful to be welcome on these lands in friendship. The lands we are situated on are covered by the Williams Treaties and are the traditional territory of the Mississaugas, a branch of the greater Anishinaabeg Nation, including Algonquin, Ojibway, Odawa and Pottawatomi. These lands remain home to many Indigenous nations and peoples.

We acknowledge this land out of respect for the Indigenous nations who have cared for Turtle Island, also called North America, from before the arrival of settler peoples until this day. Most importantly, we acknowledge that the history of these lands has been tainted by poor treatment and a lack of friendship with the First Nations who call them home.

This history is something we are all affected by because we are all treaty people in Canada. We all have a shared history to reflect on, and each of us is affected by this history in different ways. Our past defines our present, but if we move forward as friends and allies, then it does not have to define our future.

Halal Food Options Near Ontario Tech University

August 30, 2022

If you’re looking for a place to eat, here is a list of sites that have halal options nearby campus, with the top of the list being rated the highest (according to google):

Safari Secrets Restaurant

250 Taunton Rd E, Oshawa

(4.9 stars)

You can't go wrong with anything you choose on this menu. They are all amazing! This means you can try something new each time and never be disappointed.

Pita Deli

1177 Ritson Rd N, Oshawa

(4.8 stars)

Personally, I like to go for chicken shawarma. It's not like your typical shawarma but it's still really good and you can just tell the veggies are so fresh.

Reetaj Middle Eastern Restaurant

7 Nassau St, Oshawa

4.7 stars)

Here the chicken shawarmas are amazing! Their pomegranate sauce makes it a lot better and gives it a different kick than other shawarma places.

Chick N Platterz

50 Taunton Rd. E à Oshawa

(4.6 stars)

I haven't tried anything here yet but the lamb gyro platter sounds really good!

dspot

7 Rossland Rd E, Ajax (locations in Whitby and Oshawa coming soon!)

(4.5 stars)

This is my go-to place when I crave something different. Most places don't make specialty poutines, pizzas and so much more that are halal-friendly and actually taste good. I think it's fair to say that I absolutely love this place.

Osmow’s Shawarma

1900 Simcoe St N, Oshawa

(4.4 stars)

I've heard so much about Osmow's and there are so many things I want to try. First, the taboule and fattoush both look amazing. I also love how they have so many options. For example, you can have chicken on the rocks (on rice), on the sticks (on fries) or on veggies. You can do this with many of their menu items.
