Ontario Tech acknowledges the lands and people of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation.

We are thankful to be welcome on these lands in friendship. The lands we are situated on are covered by the Williams Treaties and are the traditional territory of the Mississaugas, a branch of the greater Anishinaabeg Nation, including Algonquin, Ojibway, Odawa and Pottawatomi. These lands remain home to many Indigenous nations and peoples.

We acknowledge this land out of respect for the Indigenous nations who have cared for Turtle Island, also called North America, from before the arrival of settler peoples until this day. Most importantly, we acknowledge that the history of these lands has been tainted by poor treatment and a lack of friendship with the First Nations who call them home.

This history is something we are all affected by because we are all treaty people in Canada. We all have a shared history to reflect on, and each of us is affected by this history in different ways. Our past defines our present, but if we move forward as friends and allies, then it does not have to define our future.

5 ways to get ready for spring

1. Spring cleaning 

Spring is finally here, and nothing feels better than coming home to a clean sparkly house. Kick offspring with some spring cleaning, say bye-bye to winter and hello to warm sunny days. 

What can you do to kick start your spring cleaning? Well, how about 

  • Dust ceiling fans and light fixtures.
  • Clean windowsills and window tracks.
  • Vacuum curtains and window blinds.
  • Wipe down baseboards and shoe moulding and dust corners for cobwebs
  • Disinfect doorknobs and cabinets

2. Gardening 

Who doesn’t want to wake up to beautiful fresh spring flowers! Start removing your protective plant coverings and let those plants and flowers bloom. 

  • Plant tulips 
  • Clear out weeds
  • Groom shrubs and trees

3. Pack away winter clothing 

Goodbye heavy, bulky warm winter clothing and hello beautiful and airy spring clothing.

4. Plan summer vacation 

Summer is not far away so get ahead of everyone and plan out your family vacations or solo vacation! We all could get away and now is the perfect time to plan out everything.

5. Take care of your skin 

Days are becoming sunnier and the sun is getting even more intense. Remember to apply sunscreen even on those rainy and cloudy spring-summer days. 

  • Apply a lightweight moisturizer to let your skin breathe
  • Keep hydrated as the warm weather is approaching. Your skin will thank you 
  • Make sure to exfoliate and remove the layer of winter dry skin right off
